Friends, Family and Food
Labor Day weekend was a bitter sweet one. On Saturday hte family and I joined several members of the BBQBrethren.com for a farewell parking lot bash at Willie B's restaurant in Bayshore, NY.
Opened a couple years ago by my good friend Will Breakstone, Willie B's has been a welcomed spot for good food, a cold beer and some good laughs. Unfotunately the ability to run a takeout spot, or any restaurant for that matter, has gotten extremely difficult in a down economy and Will decided to shut the doors permanently as of today.
So Saturday was the finale hoorah, complete with some tasty Frito Pie, a wide selction of sausages, smoked Prime Rib, and my created-for-the-occasion Willie B's Bourbon Rubbed Buffalo Style Blue Cheeseburger Sliders.

Sunday was a bit of a lazy day, though I was able to get the trailer cleaned out and got some chicken trimmed for our next outting September 20-21 in Westport, CT.
And true to tradition, Labor Day was spent enjoying the great outdoors around the grill. Celebrating my dad's birthday, my brother, John and I cooked up a feast that Dizzy Pigs rubbed rack of lamb, tomato pie, bratwust, procuitto wrapped scallops, grilled corn, pulled pok baked beans, and on and on. Ain't nothing better than a fridge full of leftovers!!

Not sure of the exact recipe John used but here's one from Paula Deen on the Food Network website. What's not to love about garden fresh tomatoes, cheese and pie crust???? http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/tomato-pie-recipe/index.html
