Garden City Duo Grabs Grand Championship at Battle of the BBQ Brethren

Garden City's own Smoke In Da Eye competition barbecue team (www.smokeindaeye.com) is pleased to announce its grand champion victory at the second annual "Battle of the BBQ Brethren" Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) barbecue contest (www.bbqbattleli.com) held in Sayville Oct. 25-26.

Garden City residents Clint Cantwell (pictured) and John Cantwell formed Smoke In Da Eye in 2006. Through the support of sponsors, the team competes in various contests, like "Battle of the BBQ Brethren."

Competing against 43 teams from across the country, Smoke In Da Eye finished with the top combined overall scored with a third place call in chicken, 16th place finish in ribs, 8th in pork shoulder and 4th in brisket. The team also finished 11th overall in Saturday's grilling contest, failing to repeat last year's grand champion victory.

Through the support of sponsors Sam Adams, Cattlemen's Barbecue Sauce and Franks Hot Sauce, the team competes in various contests sanctioned by KCBS and the New England Barbecue Society (NEBS) throughout the Northeast.
