Stuff the Stocking with BBQ Books

With only one week left to finish your last minute holiday shopping, I wanted to share my top five books on outdoor cooking for the barbecue and grilling fans on your list.

Smoke & Spice by Cheryl Alters Jamison and Bill Jamison.  A well rounded book that includes countless out-of-the-ordinary recipes like a barbecued baloney sandwich

The NFL Gameday Cookbook by Ray "Dr. BBQ" Lampe.  The latest from the good doctor himself, filled with a host of great recipes for tailgaters and couch potatoes alike offered just in time for playoff season.

Peace, Love, & Barbecue by Mike Mills and Amy Mills Tunnicliffe.  More than just a cookbook, award winning BBQ cook Mike Mills offers a behind-the-scenes look at some of the top players out there, mixing travel, tips and great photographs to create a must read.

Italian Grill by Mario Batali and Judith Sutton.  Acclaimed chef and TV personality Mario Batali shares some of his favorite grilled Italian specialties including a great marinated zucchini with serranos and mint

Legends of Texas Barbecue Cookbook: Recipes and Recollections from the Pit Bosses by Robb Walsh.  Perhaps it's my Texan roots shining through, but I truly enjoy the history and heritage shared in this book.  For the most part, the recipes are simple, allowing the meat to shine through in true Texas BBQ fashion.

And an honorable mention goes to Kill It and Grill It: Ted and Shemane Nugent's Guide to Preparing & Cooking Wild Game and Fish by Ted Nugent, not because I've read it but simply because of the fact that Ted Nugent has a book on killin' and cookin'.
