Grillin and Chillin in Brooklyn

This weekend marked the fourth annual Grillin on the Bay grilling contest in Brooklyn, where team Smoke In Da Eye attempted to defend its grand champion title.  And attempt was about as close as we got.  Despite some great recipes, cooking and teamwork, we finished 11th overall with a fifth place in pork ranking highest out of the four main categories.

We did, however, pull out a last minute 2nd place victory in the Quickfire Challenge hosted by Rub BBQ, an event in which we were given 45 minutes to wipe up something nice featuring the secret ingredient.  And despite efforts to gt our surprise guest Harold Dieterle of season 1 of Top Chef and Perilla restaurant in NYC, the team cranked out an awesome dish that was bested only by Andy Husbands of iQue.

But at the end of the day, it was our good friends from Transformer who took top honors amongst a tremendously talented pool of teams.  Having cooked against this amazing couple several times, it was no surprise to see them beat out Hill Country BBQ and Ribs Within (who took home two first place victories).   Here's a few pictures of the day.  Unfortunately it was cold and terribly windy so I couldn't make time to shoot video.
